Fabrice Gorgerat - Cie Jours Tranquilles (CH)
"June 12, 2016, Orlando Massacre : the first mass shooting in history ignited by homophobia. It tore me apart, but not where it could be expected. There are more and more of these massacres by fanatics operating from the self-preservation reflex. I weeped for Charlie, I weeped for the Bataclan, but I’ve had enough.
Reports from American news channels - transmitted by their foreign counterparts - implied that the motivation of the shooter was his repressed homosexuality. It was such a false conclusion, it made me stand in the gap. It wasn’t portrayed as yet another horrifying incident. Instead, they pinned the event on an unfortunate soul who couldn’t accept his homosexuality. I urgently took to explaining otherwise, for it is a matter of survival. (…).
What is there to do when we live in a world that is increasingly difficult to grasp, a world in which anxiety pervades our everyday lives ? Do we endure this anxiety, or should we be led astray? Is there another way ?" - Fabrice Gorgerat
