Billie Bird’s vocals are infused with warmth and melancholy, drawing you in. The singer of French and Spanish descent is back with Les Déferlantes, just a few months after releasing a folk-tinged EP in French. The new opus was created in collaboration with Mandrax, a producer, artist and a key figure in the local and international independent music scene.

The Lausanne native whipped up a condensed pop symphony in French, and she uses many of the subtleties the language has to offer. The singer-songwriter invokes the bewitching splendor of the night, its mysterious darkness filled with secrets. She is setting a different course on her path by exploring a richer melody that is drifting away from her more intimate folk sound. This time, audacity and desire take center stage.

She is one of this year’s rising stars and the accolades are well-deserved.
